Here’s what it’s looked like for me: My journey from starving
spiritualist to ‘successful’ (but suffering) to evolving
Shaktipreneur...

Many of you have come to know me within the past 3 years as I have begun to move powerfully in the world with my work teaching Tantric meditation and step into being a community leader as well as a successful entrepreneur.

What you might not know is that I have been in business for the past 7 years. The first 3 years I had to maintain a day job in order to fund my desire to teach Tantra, year 4 I got the guts to leave my day job, and created $40,000 in personal debt attempting to keep my business afloat while having no idea at all how to navigate as an entrepreneur, year 5 everything changed for me when I had a couple come to me for a session (to celebrate their relationship and deepen their connection) and their session with me changed the course of my life.

Turns out, they were both business coaches for entrepreneurs. The timing was ripe because I had had it with being poor. I was ready to get my work out there in a big way AND feel financially supported and held by my work as well. I was determined to step out of that broken ‘starving artist/spiritual person’ model. I realize now that I had come to believe on a very deep level that if what I was doing gave me joy and was in service of my clients awakening in some way I definitely should not be able to make a great living at it. Problem with this idea was that I was at risk of having to go back to a day job and not get my work out there at all. This just did not feel right.

Systems, products, plans, structures, finances... this was all new to me. And that part of it was necessary. I had no real understanding of structure because I had spent so much of my life ‘going with the flow’. This flow served me so well and led me to the work that I love and I feel it was both a great choice and a privilege to have the freedom to explore in this way.

I felt that I needed the balance that this business training would give me, my expansion and freedom was delicious, powerful, wild and unruly... she needed some ground to stand on. And so it began.

I stepped out of ‘going with the flow’ and right into a model of doing, pushing, bottom lines, internal pressure...

...ideas like, ‘spiritual people don’t care about money’ became overlay-ed with, ‘time is only well spent if I am working’, everything became measured in numbers: how much? how many? Etc.

Year 5 was excruciating. Truly. I worked my ass off. I had no funds to hire help so I was at the computer non-stop. I went from devoting 20-30 hours a week to my beloved practices (yoga, tantric meditation, etc) to barely remembering the simple ritual of brushing my teeth at the beginning and the end of each day (if you work from home you know that is easier to do and less weird than it sounds). I went from open, soft, alive, gentle, sensual, rich connections with my beloved to bringing the tiny sliver of myself that was left at the end of a very long day into bed with him. I became ‘hardened’.

Somehow, because I had such a strong love and devotion and foundation in my work I was still able to bring rich products and events to my community, but at what cost to myself?

Year 6, I had broken through to 6 figures and I remember emerging to attend a local workshop as a participant and people there were all shocked to see me. Everyone commented on how amazing my ‘branding’ and marketing was and I smiled, but I was suffering. My man was banging at the door of my heart screaming for the woman he had known to come out, my friends had backed off because they were tired of always hearing that I was ‘too busy working’ and I was going full speed ahead nourishing a version of myself that I was not certain I wanted to become.

I had begun to lose myself to my ‘to do’ list. I had forgotten what I most desired, what made me feel sensual and alive and surrendered it to a machine that I had created called ‘a business’...a business that I had created to be an extension of my most sensual and alive self, a business ABOUT embodiment!! The ideas that I had taken on about money, deadlines, goals, etc had eaten the most beautiful things about me.

Thus began the journey of navigating to find balance. My whole life had been devoted in one way or another to Shakti, to the vibrant flow of aliveness, movement, creativity. It was definitely important for me to begin to create a structure, to allow myself to find balance and to be held and grounded.

This year I have entered into an exploration of honoring structure and foundation, while staying open to leadership that emerges from deep within me. Allowing Shakti to continue to be the guiding force within all that I do, including the structure, promotion, team building, presenting, guiding, etc for my business.

• What would my business look like if I could allow it to bloom from deep within me? (beyond who I have been taught to be)

• What if I could release the ideas that I had been clinging to (handed to me from a warped lens of business developed over several hundred years through the eyes and experiences of men and what worked for them)?

• What if I could USE the Tantric practices of awakening the body and allowing the Shakti to flow to source my business from within?

Would it then be possible to have a flourishing business while staying open, alive, and intimate with the world? Would it even be possible for my business to GROW and become enriched through this deep trust, surrender and allowing of this Shakti to move through me in ALL things?

This is not one of those articles where I tell you that I have it all figured out and my life and business are perfect now...

What I can say is this: Now, my relationship (while being very human and having a natural ebb and flow) is growing richer and I am discovering new truths about love and loving every day.

My business is sustaining steady growth and I take 2-3 days off every week to nourish myself. I have a small team of AMAZING people who support me in showing up for the growth in my business so I can stay relaxed and not get pulled into overwhelm.

Clients from around the world are discovering my work and CONSISTENTLY sharing with me that they know there are people in their area who do similar work, but they specifically resonated with me, with my ‘energy’.

I never feel like I am ‘selling’ the work that I do. From a place of overflow, devotion and genuine desire to share I find creative ways for new people to get to know me and discover my work.

I am back to devoting several hours a week to the practices that make me so happy and give me delight and awakening. I am also discovering simple rituals that are supporting me while I work.

When I am sharing and presenting I feel absolutely soft, vibrant, magnetic and POWERFUL, the BIGGEST FEEDBACK I received from my most recent events has been about my presence and my style of leadership... that it feels uniquely WOMAN.

This exploration and awakening of woman in leadership is not for me alone.

I am She. Of course. So are you.

What's Inside the Course?

*Each class will include an experiential exercise to open your body to this flow of Shakti. You can attend class via telephone or listen online, each one is 60-90 minutes long. Module 1 - Coming Home to Yourself.

Rediscover your innate wisdom and your most empowered self. Connect to your body and unlock a powerful confidence in yourself that comes from deep within. Create space in your body for energy and aliveness to flow. We will go into a powerful and shamanic journey to meet & reclaim empowered aspects of yourself.

Module 2 - Owning it!
Thursday July 21, 2011 - 3PM

Generate energy and aliveness in your body to become more a more magnetic and dynamic female leader. You can’t share your work in an effective way if you are not fully aware and alive in your own body. This class will be dynamic and powerful as we engage the body to come home to the power in our pelvis.

This module will help you:

• come alive in the lower chakras

• know exactly who you are

• allow yourself to experience pleasure

• ‘see’ yourself and enable others to see you as you truly are

• live and move from your pelvis, from pleasure

Module 3 - Creating Your Container
Thursday July 28, 2011 - 3PM

During this session I will teach you how to create a container for this newly awakened energy that is coming alive inside of you. We have developed habits of dispersing when we feel power in our bodies, this holds us back from being truly empowered leaders. Learning this powerful technique and transforming your relationship with power will open the door for you to hold a vast space for your clients.

Module 4 - The Power in Vulnerability
Thursday August 4, 2011 - 3PM

Things are changing, where once students and clients needed to feel that their teachers knew everything, now (after many disturbing instances of double standards and ugly shadows of our teachers coming to light) the world is hungry to truly know you. You’ll discover how to become totally honest with yourself as you uncover your own most vulnerable aspects and how they can actually serve your students & clients. You will learn that it’s okay to acknowledge that you don’t know everything - and you will let go of the exhausting weight of trying to be the ‘guru’. Naked. Honest. Open. Real. Yes, thank you. :)

Module 5 - Surrender
Thursday August 11, 2011 - 3PM

In the final session we will look at the most powerful ingredient for success, surrender. When we explore the art of surrender we allow ourselves to be both alive and supported in new ways. You no longer need to do it alone. The powerful, authentic leader you are simply cannot emerge when you are constantly contracting your energy in dealing with the overwhelm and work-load of trying to do it all (and get it perfect). Here we will explore one of my very favorite practices to feel that power alive in our bodies and to then feel a deep ‘yes’ within to whatever unfolds.
